PROFILE 1922 Emile Charlier starts his building business in Lyminge constructing individual well designed homes before moving to Saltwood in Kent 1945 Emile's sons, Dick & Jim, join the firm. The Company commenced trading in 1974 but the Charlier family have been building homes in South East Kent since 1922. The original founder, Emile Charlier a Belgian soldier, came to England and met Helen Ryan in Folkestone, Kent during the Great War. After the war they married and started their own building business in the early 1920s at Hythe, Kent.
The good quality and individual designs of their houses was highly regarded. Between 1922 and 1939 they carried out numerous small developments in the Hythe district. The reputation they built over the years led to Charlier houses being sought after and regarded as a sound investment.
After the 1939-45 war Mr. & Mrs. Charlier's two sons, Dick and Jim, joined the business. Over the last 55 years further housing developments were completed in the district. The business developed further into small works, repairs and maintenance and in the 1960's included main contracting. As a result of the contracting business the Company "Charlier Construction Ltd." was formed. In recent times Dick's daughter, Christine, joined the Business together with Chairman, John Rapley and Company Secretary, Tony Boyer.
The Company still continues to build superior quality homes maintaining the family's traditions and this can be seen in the number of exclusive properties still in demand today. Together with our Contracting, General Building and Painting and Decorating Departments, the Company continues to offer a first class service in the district.
